Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong

Mario's original nemesis Donkey Kong is not the same Donkey Kong that we know today. In the 90's Rare Software declared that the Donkey Kong appearing in their games is actually Donkey Kong Jr. from the arcade days. This convention has been maintained today by most nintendo afficandos.

Key Franchise Moments:

Donkey Kong Jr. (arcade)

Donkey Kong Country (snes)

Donkey Kong 64 (N64)

Donkey Konga 1&2 (game cube)

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (game cube)

DK: King of Swing (GBA)

DK: Jungle Climber (DS)

Historical Fighting Style:

Being a simian, Donkey Kong is obviously a strong climber. Nowhere is this more evident than in Donkey Jr., the game is played mostly suspend between two vines climbing up and around obstacles. In his handle appearances DK is also an avid swinger. The Donkey Kong Country series focuses mostly on platform jumping. The ability to roll into enemies as well as ride animal pals are the only difference from an original Mario bros. style of play. In the game cube game king of swing we get to see a much more aggressive DK. In Jungle Beat you literally beat on enemies as you bang the bongos.
